BrownGirl, RDH is a 501. (c ) 3 nonprofit organization that awards scholarships to any student in need, removing cultural and economic barriers to joining the dental hygiene workforce, to establish and promote pathways to dental hygiene careers.

BrownGirl, RDH is an organization of donors, sponsors, and dental professionals committed to providing solutions for health issues linked to oral health, eliminating access to care barriers in underserved communities, creating opportunities for economic stability, and building a diverse and inclusive workforce through research, education, development, advocacy and diversity and inclusion.

Vision Statement

We work to connect donors, sponsors, and dental professionals with projects, programs, and innovative solutions to expand access and provide preventative and treatment services to underserved populations, bridge the gap between health and oral health, and provide support and opportunities to minorities seeking advancement in oral care.

Brown Girl RDH

Martelle established BrownGirlRDH in 2018 to create a platform for women in dental hygiene to connect, share experiences, and provide support. Under her leadership, BrownGirlRDH has organized events, meetups, and conferences, as well as established scholarship funds for aspiring dental hygienists. Martelle is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in the field, actively promoting equal opportunities and representation for women of color. She is also a sought-after speaker and educator, delivering presentations and workshops on dental hygiene and professional development. Martelle's dedication to empowering women in dental hygiene has earned her recognition and respect in the industry.

Recent statistics show that minorities are represented in the field of Dental Hygiene at less than 4% and men represented at less than 1%. BrownGirl, RDH supports dental hygiene students by providing supplemental support outside of tuition costs; covering clinical supplies, equipment, and examination fees.
